City: Cusco, Mountains // Activities: Trekking to the Rainbow Mountains, Visit of Pisac, Moray, Salt Mines of Maras & Ollantaytambo //

 Why you'll love this experience:

Passionate and experienced guides that are happy to share incredible stories with you.

Hike only for 45 minutes instead of 3 hours to the alternative rainbow mountain.

Small (up to 8) instead of a large impersonalized group to keep your experience with your guide special.

Don't rush from site to site like in the typical touristic tour of the Sacred Valley. Enjoy more time at each site and better understand the culture and history of every place.

Within 2 days, you will get to know Cusco's precious natural environment: the sacred valley and the rainbow mountains. During the sacred valley tour, you will discover Pisay, the archaeological site of Moray, the salt mines of Maras and Ollantaytambo, the last stop before heading to Machu Picchu. Depending on your preference, you can stay in Ollantaytambo, continue to Aguas Calientes and visit Machu Picchu in the morning or you can also just return to Cusco. No matter which option you will end up choosing, you will surely be fascinated by the treasures the sacred valley has to offer. The short trekking tour to the Rainbow Mountains will show you postcard-like mountains and a unique landscape you can only find South of Cusco. However, this is not the typical trekking tour to the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain. This is the alternative tour to the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountains where you -instead of being with hundreds of other tourists fighting to get the best photo with no people on it- will be almost alone because this tour is still very unknown yet. After around an hour of trekking, you will be able to enjoy breathtaking views and see the typical Andean wildlife with your tour guide Roger. Trekkers, listen up: this day trip to the Rainbow Mountains is one of the best ones in Cusco, if not in all of Peru!

Difficulty of trek: easy - medium

Validity: Buy TODAY and you have up to 5 months to reserve the experience. Minimum 2 people.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Cusco at 6:30 am before you will head to the town of Pisac to visit one of the most imposing archaeological sites of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here, you can see wonderful architecture and enjoy unique views of the valley from the top. The next stop is the artisan market of Pisac, where you can find typical souvenirs. Afterwards, you will get to know the archaeological site of Moray. Here, you will face a construction that is a clear proof of the extraordinary agricultural progresses that the ancient Peruvians had regarding the management of climates, soils and humidity. The salt mines of Maras, which are not far from Moray, are the next highlight on this tour. Together with your guide, you will enter the mines, learn about its history and have enough time to take some pictures. If you want to, you can buy some of the special salt to take it home and use it for cooking.

Then, you will continue to Urubamba to get some lunch. Once you're ready to go, you will head to Ollantaytambo, a very important temple for the Inca known as "the living city of the Incas". You will explore its ceremonial centres, walk along its narrow paths and find out the history behind it. Now that you have visited the last site of the tour, you can either return tu Cusco with the guide at 5:30 pm, stay in Ollantaytambo or head on to Aguas Calientes.

Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 am for your Rainbow Mountain trip in a private bus. After a 3-hour shuttle drive to the Ananiso community, passing traditional villages with amazing views of the Andes, valleys, and mountains until reaching the starting point, which is at 4.300 m. You’ll get acquainted with your fellow travelers and stretch your legs while receiving important information from your guide about the schedule and the hike.
Afterwards, the hike will be up for 1 hour along a small path overhanging the Palomino Valley with some lovely views over some of the most beautiful rock formations of the area. At 4.900 m you will explore the area. You will be able to spot much Andean wildlife such as alpacas, llamas, condors (Vulture gryphus) and the rarely seen vicuña (wild llama family).

Upon your arrival at Rainbow Mountain, you will have a great view over the entire region and also of the Ausangate Glacier, which is 6375 m high (21,000ft.).
After a well-deserved break and some energizing snacks, you will have enough time for many photos and breathe the fresh air of the Andes. You will spend about 2 hours at the summit, depending on the weather conditions. You will begin the descent of 20-30 minutes to the starting point where the driver will be waiting for you. After this outstanding day of touring, you will return back to Cusco, in a private bus, getting back at your hotel around 5:30 pm.
